Protect your health: book your flu or pneumonia vaccine today

Reduce your risk of flu and pneumonia by booking one of the seasonal winter vaccines in-clinic today. With same day and next day appointments, you can ensure your immune system is fighting fight to enjoy festive cheer.

Everything you need to know about the essential winter vaccines.

As we prepare for a season of yuletide and cheer, winter also means flu season begins.

Research continues to show the importance of vaccines in keeping the immune system healthy and strong. By vaccinating, you are reducing your risk of catching a fever, which could lead to bronchitis and pneumonia in those most vulnerable.

At (med)24, we are one of the few private providers with stock of the seasonal vaccines. Between 70-80% effective, the vaccines significantly reduce the risk of catching the flu, especially in those with underlying health conditions.

We spoke with Dr Riz Khan about the benefits of getting the seasonal winter vaccines:

How important are the vaccines?

Flu is a big killer in winter, so it has never been more important to get vaccinated, especially with the risk of Covid still contractible.

Who needs to consider getting the vaccines?

The flu vaccine is most beneficial for those who are:

- 50 and over (including those who'll be 50 by 31st March 2022).

- Have certain health conditions, are pregnant, or in long-stay residential care.

- Receive a carer's allowance, or are the main carer for an older or disabled person who may be at risk if you get sick

- Those who live with someone who is more likely to get infections (such as someone who has HIV, has had a transplant or is having certain treatments for cancer, lupus or rheumatoid arthritis).

- Frontline health or social care workers.

However, any adult can get a flu jab after screening. It may also be beneficial for people who are self-employed and not eligible sick pay. The more flu jabs that are given, the more the wider population will be protected.

Is there an optimal time to get the vaccine?

Flu jabs are normally done yearly, as every year there is a different strain that becomes common. A good time to have them is as soon as they are made available, which is normally in September.

Do these vaccines interact with or affect the Covid vaccine in any way?

No.

How can someone book a vaccine at the clinic?
